WHAT IS ‘SHINING LIGHTS’ ?
‘Shining Lights’ aims to provide basic training in the performing arts for 7-11 year olds in a friendly and supportive atmosphere which will enhance their confidence, enjoyment and performance standard. We believe the discipline of rehearsal, maximising each individual’s gift and working as a team are all particularly important. ‘Shining Lights’ is open to any child aged between 7 and 11, irrespective of background. The weekly classes are from 6pm until 8pm, the time being divided equally between Music and Drama but incorporating Movement where possible. The group size is restricted to 16. There are presently four regular members of staff and five occasional staff who come in when required
WHAT DO WE DO IN THE CLASSES?
Music: the essential elements of music [eg: pitch, rhythm, beat, tempo etc.] are learnt mainly through singing, musical games and using percussion. Basic singing techniques [eg: correct breathing and diction] and performance skills are emphasised.Drama: voice projection, characterisation and speaking with expression and confidence are learnt through poems, prose, short plays, improvisation and mime.Movement: responding to music, co-ordinating movement to basic rhythms, simple dance steps, posture and general presentation.
All Shining Lights staff are qualified and experienced in their respective disciplines and in working with young people. They are also checked through the CRB for their suitability to work with children. Emergency Aid in the Workplace and S.A.F.E [Safer Activities For Everyone] Certificates.
