WHO RUNS IT?

All Shining Lights staff are qualified and/or experienced in their respective disciplines and in working with young people. They are also checked through the CRB for their suitablility to work with children. Emergency Aid in the Workplace and S.A.F.E (Safer Activities for Everyone) Certificates.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

At present, the classes are FREE of charge and all staff give their time for nothing. Shining Lights is entirely dependent on fund-raising and whatever small profits we may make from performances.

WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM THE CHILDREN?

Firstly, lots of enthusiasm, commitment and regular attendance at all the classes. This is particularly important for progress and continuity and feeling part of the \'team\'. We also expect children to practise at home in between classes. These are simple tasks such as learning words, doing a breathing exercise or practising a dance step, no more than 10 minutes a day. During the preparation for a show, certain children may be asked to come for an extra rehearsal outside the normal class time.

Suitable children are accepted into Shining Lights only after a home interview, at least one visit and an audition. Newly accepted students will be on half a term\'s trial during which time they will only be given chorus work (ie: no solos) . If at the end of that time we feel Shining Lights is not the them we reserve the right to ask them to leave or, in certain circumstances, to extend the trial period to one term. In the event of the child themselves wishing to leave Shining Lights we ask for a minimum of half a term\'s notice in writing.

PERFORMING OPPORTUNITIES

As a performing arts group, we recognise how important it is to give children experience of performing in front of an audience and so we aim to give a minimum of three presentations a year. One, mainly for family and friends, takes the form of a demonstration of class work, whilst the other two are set pieces and are open to the public.
